Thanks for this. I am also curious to your thoughts on Serph, Keotag, and BoardReader.

Re: 10 tools for listening in social media.

Thanks, Mike

Re: 10 tools for listening in social media.

Guillaume,

I use them both, Yahoo Pipes with a little more frequency. Perhaps on the next brand monitoring post I will touch a bit on both of them, more so on Yahoo Pipes. I did not include Yahoo Pipes because it's not beginner friendly as some of the other ones I profiled. Thanks.

Re: 10 tools for listening in social media.

At the time of writing this I think backtype com was new to the scene. It's definitely a worthy mention. I will include that on the next brand monitoring post. Measuring the right conversations can be a challenge. It never ceases to amaze me that people carve out the time to be able to find these sorts of things and then blog about them.

I'm glad you do though. :)

Re: 10 tools for listening in social media.

rah33ls, Diigo is a great resource. I could see chatter created from social bookmarking. More so from Diigo then other social bookmarking services. I still would classify it more of a promotional tool. The social aspect of bookmarking, I feel has never really caught on. Platforms such as FriendFeed, is now allowing this to happen.

Re: 10 tools for listening in social media.

Rob, thanks. I was borderline with including Technorati. It should not be anyone's first point of discovery, but rather an up the chain supplement. I do agree though, it's quickly starting to go down hill and becoming less relevant.

Re: 10 tools for listening in social media.

oh. i forgot to mention. i know this list is focused on the serendipitous nature of discovery from your community. but can i mention diigo?

this site i find invaluable.

Re: 10 tools for listening in social media.

very helpful. muchos appreciated

Re: 10 tools for listening in social media.

Thanks for the comment Louis. One minor issue is that Technorati seems to be less useful compared to the others. I hope they figure out what to do in the future because they are losing relevancy very quickly.

Re: 10 tools for listening in social media.

Be sure to check out SM2-Techrigy and Custom Scoop, too! Well done. Please allow me to suggest that perhaps Technorati is running beyond its best used by date. They are no doubt in yet another cycle/iteration of reinvention but it seems fair to say other tools including the ones you mention may prove to be more productive.
